Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist Music

At any Mass, the principal singing group of the Cathedral is its Congregation of parishioners and numerous guests and visitors. All those present are urged to actively participate through prayers, responses, litanies, texts, acclamations, hymns, chants and songs. To facilitate the congregation’s singing, a Cantor is present at every Liturgy, along with the Organist. Continuing in the ancient Jewish and Christian lineage of Psalmist and Cantor, the Cantor serves the role as leader of community song and chanter of Psalm. Cathedral Cantors number 15 - 20 volunteer professional and semi-professional singers. They audition for their posts and rehearse continuously.
